Magnetism: a guided path to easier friendships

Matthew Firth By Matthew Firth, founder of NexSpark · Sep 1, 2026 · 4 min read

Magnetism is NexSpark Friends' free, guided program for easier friendships, and this page is the plain-text version of it: what it is, what's in the companion ebook, and how the two pieces (online program and ebook) work together. Friendship Magnetism is not popularity. It's the set of behaviors that make real friendship easier to begin and easier to continue.

What friendship Magnetism is

Adult friendship usually fails in the middle. Two people like each other, exchange numbers, say "we should do this again," and then ordinary life absorbs the momentum. Magnetism is practice for that middle: approachability, curiosity, follow-through, repeated contact, and reciprocity. It sits beside the Circle model — NexSpark can put four to six compatible people in the same orbit, and Magnetism helps each person participate in the repetition that turns a group into a real social home.

It runs as a 21-day core program plus a 90-day maintenance stretch, live now inside NexSpark Friends at nexspark.org/magnetism, free to every member. The companion ebook below is the same program in your hands: read it start to finish, or keep it beside the app as a reference while you work through it.

A sample from the workbook

Each chapter includes short written prompts, not just reading. From Chapter 3, Your Social Baseline:

Friendship feels easiest to me when…

I want people around me to experience me as…

The social behavior I most want to make easier is…

How to use the two together

The online program is a cycle of noticing, trying, returning, and adjusting — not something to read straight through. The strongest way to use it is to pair each section with something you actually do in the real world; friendship change is usually behavioral before it's emotional, so the point is to make the action small enough that confidence isn't a prerequisite. The ebook explains that cycle in full and gives you somewhere to write through it away from a screen. Because the app is interactive and may evolve, treat the live experience as the source of truth for exact screen labels and sequence — the ebook explains the underlying structure, which doesn't change as often.
